Worldcon 75 Co-Chair Resigns

Crystal Huff, co-chair of the 75th Worldcon, resigned her position on November 19, 2016, citing career and family priorities. Huff worked for four years on the bid for Worldcon 75, which will be held August 9-13, 2017 in Helsinki, Finland. She will continue to work for the convention in a smaller role. Jukka Halme will remain as sole chairperson for the time being.

2017 and 2018 Eurocons

Eurocon 2017 (U-Con) will be held June 16-18, 2017 at the Fritz Henssler Haus in Dortmund, Germany. Guests of honor will include Andreas Eschbach, Dave Hutchinson, Autun Purser, and Aleksander Žiljak. 2017 Nebula Awards Venue Announced

Registration for the 2017 SFWA Nebula Awards Conference is now open. The event will take place at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center in Pittsburgh PA, May 18-21, 2017. The banquet and award ceremony are scheduled for the evening of Saturday May 20, 2017.

Worldcon and NASFiC Site Selections

San Jose CA won the bid to host the 76th World Science Fiction Convention in 2018, beating a bid from New Orleans LA by a vote of 675 to 594. The convention will be held in the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose CA on August 16-20, 2018. Guests of honor will include Chelsea Quinn Yarbro and Spider Robinson. 2016 Hugo Base Designers Announced

MidAmeriCon II has announced Sara Felix (president of the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists) as the designer of the 2016 Hugo Award base, and Brent Simmons as the 1941 Retro-Hugo Award base designer. Both bases will be revealed on August 17, 2016 at the opening ceremonies of MidAmeriCon II, the 74th WorldCon, at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City MO.

Two bids have been formally filed to host the 76th World Science Fiction Convention, to be held in 2018: New Orleans LA and San Jose CA.

Eastercon 2017 Host Convention Withdraws

The convention hosting Eastercon in 2017 in Cardiff, Wales — Pasgon — has announced the concom no longer believes the convention is viable due to an “[inability] to resolve a number of location issues.” Purchasers of Eastercon memberships have been notified through e-mail regarding the changes, and further information will be posted to the Pasgon website. Hodgman Named Nebula Awards Toastmaster

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) have announced that John Hodgman, “the longtime Resident Expert on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” will be Toastmaster at the 2016 Nebula Awards Weekend, the 50th anniversary of the Awards, to be held May 12-15, 2016, at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago IL.

Hugo Base Competition

MidAmericon II, the 74th Worldcon, held August 17-21, 2016 in Kansas City MO, has opened the competition to design the base for the 2016 Hugo Award.

Designs should “have a theme highlighting Kansas City and/or the themes and aesthetic feel of MidAmeriCon II.” Proposals should be submitted to the MidAmericon II committee by January 18, 2016.

2015 Hugo Base Competition

Sasquan, the 73rd Worldcon, August 19-23, 2015 in Spokane WA, opened the competition to design the base of the 2015 Hugo Award on December 18, 2014.

Okorafor Named Detcon1 YA Special Guest

Nnedi Okorafor will be the young-adult author special guest at Detcon1, the 2014 North American Science Fiction Convention (NASFiC), held July 17-20, 2014 in Detroit Michigan. Okorafor will also present two awards for YA and middle grade speculative fiction at the 2014 Golden Duck Awards, as part of a special focus on YA literature at Detcon1.
