The 81st World Science Fiction Convention, to be held August 23-29, 2023 in Chengdu, China, has an official name: Chengdu Worldcon, as announced on Twitter.

The convention has also released membership rates: full attending memberships with voting rights are $120, while attending memberships without voting rights are $70. Supporting memberships (which grant voting rights but not attendance) are $50. Virtual memberships with voting rights are $60, while basic virtual memberships are $10. It costs $70 to convert an existing supporting membership to full attending. There are discounts for students and first-time Worldcon attendees, and forthcoming family, disability, and other discounts. See the price chart here.

Memberships will be available for purchase starting May 1 at their website. “These rates will be good until at least Sept 30, 11:59pm, Chengdu time. We may raise the rates after that, but have not decided whether we will do so.”

Announced guests of honor include Liu Cixin, Sergey Lukianenko, and Robert J. Sawyer. For more, see the Chengdu Worldcon site.
