Two titles reach #1 this week: in the UK, Terry Pratchett's Discworld novella, illustrated by Paul Kidby, The Last Hero (Gollancz), reaches the top spot on the Times of London's hardcover fiction list. And in Los Angeles, Dean Koontz's volume of funny verse, The Paper Doorway (HarperCollins), reaches #1 on the LA Times fiction hardcover list. Anne Rice's Blood and Gold (Knopf) debuts on three more lists this week; it's among the top 10 on seven lists in all.

   = same as last week
   + or - with number: difference since last week

   ++ new on list
   x no longer on list (number of x's: weeks off list)

Columns show ranks on lists from, respectively, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, London Times, Publishers Weekly, BookSense, Amazon.com (fiction lists), and Amazon UK (fiction lists). All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.
