Terry Brooks's The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara: Antrax (Del Rey) debuts strongly this week on 6 lists both in the US and UK, though the dominant genre title on bestseller lists is still Stephen King & Peter Straub's Black House (Random House; HarperCollins in the UK). In its second week the King/Straub novel ranks on all lists except for BookSense's, which hasn't been updated, and the Washington Post and Amazon lists, which habitually lag the others. T.C. Boyle's After the Plague and Other Stories (Viking), which includes several genre-oriented stories, places this week at the author's near-to-hometown newspaper, the LA Times.

Columns show ranks on lists from, respectively, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, London Times, Publishers Weekly, BookSense, Amazon.com (fiction lists), and Amazon UK (fiction lists). All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.
