Suri Wins Brave New Words Award
Tasha Suri won the Brave New Words Award on the strength of her debut novel Empire of Sand (Orbit). The award was announced by Starburst magazine at a ceremony during the Edge-Lit 8 festival, held July 13, 2019 at QUAD in Derby, UK. The award goes to an individual, not a specific work, so the titles listed are “examples that most define the creators output.” Other finalists were:
- Origamy, Rachel Armstrong (NewCon)
- 84K, Claire North (Orbit)
- Rosewater, Tade Thompson (Orbit)
- The Loosening Skin, Aliya Whiteley (Unsung Stories)
- Lost Gods, Micah Yongo (Angry Robot)
This year’s judges were Rebecca Derrick, Mikey Smith, Russell Smith, and Alasdair Stuart.
