Tomorrow Prize and Roswell Award Shortlists
Sci-Fest LA has announced the finalists for its Tomorrow Prize and Roswell Award for short science fiction. The five finalists for each will have their stories read by celebrity guests during LitFest Pasadena.
The finalists for the Tomorrow Prize for short science fiction by LA county high school students are:
- “Another Reality”, Samuel Fischbach
- “A Helping Hand”, Jonathan Herbst
- “The Dead Light”, Leslie Le
- “EARTH II”, Richard Magdaluyo
- “The Most Satisfying Sound”, Joseph Springer
- “The Multiverse Theory”, Ekaterina Zhosan
Cira Davis, Zachariah Nash, Angelica Pico, Allison Pleitez, Vianni Valle, and Paula Wang received honorable mentions. The first place winner receives a $250 cash prize, second place receives $150, and third place receives $100. All finalists and honorable mentions receive a certificate of recognition and additional prizes donated by sponsors. Readings of finalists’ stories and award ceremony will take place on May 21, 2017 at the Stand Sculpture Courtyard in Pasadena CA.
The finalists for the Roswell Award for short science fiction by adults are:
- “I’ll Have What He’s Having”, Mel Gurney
- “Trash Landed”, Liz Hufford
- “Fifteen Minutes Hate”, Richard Larson
- “Midgley Avenged”, Neil Stevens
Jaap Boekestein, Clio Davis, Madeleine McDonald, M.A. Nicholson, and Peter-Paul Ndyani received honorable mentions. The first place winner receives a $500 cash prize. All finalists and honorable mentions receive a certificate of recognition and additional prizes donated by sponsors. Readings of finalists’ stories and award ceremony will take place on May 20, 2017 at the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena CA.
