Inaugural Nommo Awards
The African Speculative Fiction Society, a new professional organization for African science fiction and fantasy, will formally announce the creation of the Nommo Awards at the Aké Festival, to be held November 15-19, 2016 at the Arts and Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, Nigeria. A prize of $3,000 will be shared among the winners of four categories: best novel ($1,000), best novella ($500), best short story ($500), and best graphic novel ($1,000). The award currently has four years’ worth of prize money, thanks to benefactor Tom Ilube.
The first prizes will be awarded at the Aké Festival in November 2017. The award is “open to authors and artists with African citizenship, or who grew up in Africa or who live abroad and have at least one African parent.” For more information, see the ASFS site.
