Chris Moore (1947-2025)
Artist Chris Moore, 78, died February 7, 2025 at home in the UK. Moore was a prolific artist, best known for his hard SF book covers and album artwork by artists including Rod Stewart and Fleetwood Mac.
Christopher Norton Moore was born June 1, 1947 in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. He attended Doncaster Art School, Maidstone College of Art, and the Royal College of Art, graduating from the latter in 1972. Until 1980 he was a partner at design group Moore Morris Ltd. He began doing book cover illustrations in 1972, and his first SF cover was for a 1975 reprint of The Computer Connection (published as Extro) by Alfred Bester. He went on to produce scores of covers in the decades to follow, along with magazine covers and interior artwork.
Some of his work is collected in Journeyman: The Art of Chris Moore (2000), which also includes a lengthy interview conducted by Stephen Gallagher. Moore also contributed extensively to Parallel Lines (1981, with Peter Elson) and artwork anthologies Dream Makers (1988) and Fantasy Art of the New Millennium (1999). Moore was nominated for numerous Chesley and BSFA awards, and won an Asimov’s Readers’ Award in 1998 for best cover.
He is survived by his wife, Katie, and four children.
