World Fantasy Awards Judges

Updated January 16, 2024.

The judges for the 2024 World Fantasy Awards have been empaneled.

The judges will read and consider eligible materials from 2023 between now and June 1, 2024. To be considered for awards, all materials must be received by all five judges and Peter Dennis Pautz by June 1, 2024. “If… something is received on May 31 the judges may well have only one day to read it before their deliberations conclude. Anything received after June 1 will receive little or no consideration.”

Only living authors and editors are eligible. All books must have a 2023 publication date, and all magazines a 2023 cover date. All forms of fantasy are eligible, e.g. high, epic, dark, contemporary, literary. Categories: Life Achievement; Best Novel; Best Novella (10,001 to 40,000 words); Best Short Story; Best Anthology; Best Collection; Best Artist; Special Award — Professional; Special Award — Non-Professional. A word count should be included for works shorter than novel length, for the judges’ benefit.

The awards will be presented at the World Fantasy Convention, October 17-24, 2024 at the Sheraton Niagara Falls in Niagara Falls, NY. See the World Fantasy 2024 site for more information.

Update: Pautz notes that due to new customs practices in Europe and the UK, some packages marked as promotional materials are requring a duty or ‘‘landing fee’’ at the recipient’s end. As WFC and the jurors have no funds to pay those fees, submissions requiring a fee will be refused by judge Thomas Olde Heuvelt, ‘‘with our agreement. He still prefers hard copies of any submissions. However, I suggest backing up those submissions with PDF or EPUB to ensure your submissions receive their due attention.’’
