2023 CCBC Book Awards Shortlists

The Canadian Children’s Book Centre (CCBC) has announced the shortlists for the 2023 CCBC Book Awards, which include several titles of genre interest:

Amy Mathers Teen Book Award

  • Road of the Lost, Nafiza Azad (McElderry)
  • As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow, Zoulfa Katouh (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers)

Jean Little First Novel Award

  • The Grave Thief, Dee Hahn (Puffin Canada)

Arlene Barlin Award for Science Fiction and Fantasy

  • Sneaks, Catherine Egan (Knopf Books for Young Readers)
  • Blood Scion, Deborah Falaye (HarperTeen)
  • The Limitless Sky, Christina Kilbourne (Dundurn)
  • A Magic Steeped in Poison, Judy I. Lin (Feiwel and Friends)
  • Ghostlight, Kenneth Oppel (Puffin Canada)

Other awards categories include the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award, the Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award, the Norma Fleck Award for Canadian Children’s Non-Fiction, and the Geoffrey Bilson Award for Historical Fiction for Young People. Prizes range from CAD $5,000 to CAD $50,000. Winners will be announced at an in-person event on October 23, 2023 in Toronto, Canada.
