2023 PEN Translates Winners

The thirteen winning titles for the PEN Translates awards have been announced, including the following titles and authors of genre interest:

  • Abandonment, Erminia Dell’Oro, translated by Oonagh Stransky (Héloïse Press)
  • The Plains, Federico Falco, translated by Jennifer Croft (Charco)
  • The Machine for Thinking about Gladys, Mario Levrero, translated by Annie McDermott and Kit Schluter (And Other Stories)
  • Verdigris, Michele Mari, translated by Brian Robert Moore (And Other Stories.)
  • Kibogo, Scholastique Mukasonga, translated by Mark Polizzotti (Daunt)

With support from Arts Council England, the award helps UK publishers translate new works into English and “funds up to 75% of translation costs for selected projects.” Launched in 2012, PEN Translates has supported “over 350 books translated from over 90 languages, awarding over £1.1m in grants.” For more information and the complete list of winners, see the PEN Translates website.
