Matthew Mather (1969-2022)
SF writer Matthew Mather, 52, died suddenly on September 13, 2022. He was best known for his technothrillers, including CyberStorm (2013).
Mather was born September 28, 1969 in Sheffield UK and raised in Montreal, Canada. As an adult, he split his time between Montreal and Charlotte NC. In addition to writing, he worked in cybersecurity and as a hardware and software developer and technology consultant.
His first novel was The Complete Atopia Chronicles (2012), and was followed by sequels The Dystopia Chronicles (2014) and The Utopia Chronicles (2017). CyberStorm (2013) was followed by sequels CyberSpace (2020) and CyberWar (2020). The New Earth series is Nomad (2015), Sanctuary (2016), Resistance (2019), and Destiny (2019). The Delta Devlin series began with The Dreaming Tree (2019) and continues with Meet Your Maker (2020) and Out of Time (2021). Standalone novels include Darknet (2015) and Polar Vortex (2019).
Mather is survived by his wife Julie and their children, Charlotte and Jack.

Only the good die young. I was friends with his dad, David, and was privy to attend their annual gala here in Charlotte on a number of occasions. Always went away learning something new! He left us way too soon. -Leland Fuerstman
