The Great Resignation
Numerous publishing professionals announced their resignations in March 2022, leading to widespread discussions on social media about burnout and unsustainable workloads, especially for junior staff. Genre-related departures include Tor/Forge assistant editor Molly McGhee, who resigned from the company after her request for a promotion was denied. Her first ever acquisition (The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake) recently debuted at #3 on the New York Times hardcover bestseller list. McGhee says ‘‘the current labor expectation in publishing is untenable.’’ Read her full statement on Twitter.
Orbit assistant editor Hillary Sames also announced that she was leaving the industry, and associate editor Angeline Rodriguez also resigned her position.
