Omega Sci-Fi Awards Winners

Winners of the Omega Sci-Fi Awards, presented by Sci-Fest LA and the Light Bringer Project, were announced in an online ceremony.

Roswell Award

  • First place: “Imagine Dandelions”, Andrea Goyan
  • Second place: “Biomimicry”, Ven Pillay
  • Third place: “Realtiger”, Susan Wachowski

Tomorrow Prize

  • First place: “Star Sailor”, Gwendolyn Lopez
  • Second place: “Returning Home”, Sofia Orduno
  • Third place: “EP-1M Contamination”, Britney Cruz

“Corn” by Sienna Koizumi won the 2021 Green Feather Award competition, and received $250. “Never Turn Your Back on the Water” by Courtney Watson won the 2021 Women Hold Up Half the Sky competition.

The Roswell Award short story competition is open to writers 16 years old and up. First place winner received $500 and access to the UCLA Extension writers’ program. Second prize was $250, and third prize was $100. Judges were Steven Barnes, Alyssa Bell, Wesley Chu, S.B. Divya, Rebecca Moesta, Philippe Mora, and Larry Niven.

The Tomorrow Prize is open to Los Angeles County high school students. First place winner received $250 and publication in L.A. Parent magazine. Second prize was $150, and third prize was $100.
