Asia SF Association Established
A new organization, Asia SF Association, has been established, with Cixin Liu as president. The organization has members from China, Egypt, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, and other countries. The group first met at APSFCon, held May 18-19, 2018 in Beijing, China, and held a general meeting online in July 2018 to announce the president and board members. In addition to Liu, Latssep of Science Fiction World is executive vice president, and YK Yoon of the Korea SF Association is secretary. Deputy secretaries are Regina Kanyu Wang of Applecore, Feng Zhang of FAA, and Arvind Mishra of the Indian Science Fiction Writers’ Association.
The goals of the society are ‘‘a) to find ways and means of establishing contacts between the Science Fiction (SF) professionals and fans; b) to ensure better mutual knowledge of SF literature and arts and of fandom activity in the Asian countries; c) to propose the cognition of Asian SF in the rest of the world.’’ They plan to hold Asiancon in September or October 2019, publish an Asian SF anthology in 2019, and publish Asian SF history articles starting in 2019.
