Chicon 7 Extends Hugo Award Base Competition Deadline
The 70th World Science Fiction Convention, Chicon 7, has extended the submission deadline for its Hugo Award Base Design Competition to January 15, 2012. The winning entry, which will feature the iconic Hugo Award Rocket on a base with a design that reflects “a theme appropriate to Chicago and the Midwest,” will be introduced by its designer at the Hugo Awards Ceremony and will be included in the archive of Hugo base designs and the Hugo History Exhibit displayed annually at each Worldcon. Entrants must submit initial drawings, sketches, and/or a constructed sample of their design by the January 2012 deadline. If selected, the designer will be responsible for arranging the construction of up to 30 bases, at a cost of no more than $150 per individual base, to be delivered no later than June 30, 2012. Full terms and conditions for the competition appear on the Chicon 7 website.
