Tolkien Memorial Unveiled
Pembroke College, Oxford has unveiled a memorial to J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973). Tolkien was the Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at the college from 1925 to 1945, during which time he wrote The Hobbit and other works.
The memorial consists of a bronze sculpture created by Tolkien’s grand-nephew, Tim Tolkien. Neil Gaiman was the master of ceremonies for the unveiling in June 2024, and Roz Kaveney (a Pembroke alum) read a tribute poem.
