2023 PEN Presents Winners
English PEN has announced the seven winning translators for the PEN Presents awards, which “aim to fund literary translators’ work of creating samples, give publishers better access to titles from underrepresented languages and regions, and help diversify the translated literature landscape.” Winners of genre interest include the following titles, translators, and authors:
- Mending Bodies, Hon Lai-chu, translated by Jacqueline Leung
- The White Line of Night, Khaled Nasrallah, translated by Ibrahim Fawzy
- Take Care, Noisy Lane, Ziggy Zezsyazeoviennazabrizkie, translated by Norman Erikson Pasaribu, edited by Tiffany Tsao
Winning translators were awarded grants to create 5,000-word samples for the second issue of PEN Presents, an online catalogue of “original and bibliodiverse literature not yet published in English translation.” Translators also received editorial support from English PEN, and their samples will be showcased to publishers of literature in translation.
For more information, and the complete list of winners, see the PEN Presents website.
