Michael D. Toman (1949-2023)
Writer and librarian Michael D. Toman, 73, died September 2, 2023. He wrote several short stories published in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s.
Toman was born October 8, 1949, and attended the Clarion Science Fiction Writers Workshop in 1973. He worked as a librarian for the South Pasadena Public Library until he retired around 2015, where he tirelessly supported the work of SF writers.
His own work appeared in Science Fiction Emphasis #1, Cold Shocks, Pulphouse, Fantasy Tales, Fantasy Macabre, and French anthology Univers 13. His story “Auarto” was accepted for Harlan Ellison’s unpublished anthology the Last Dangerous Visions, and in the 2000s a portion of the story was submitted to a writing competition judged by John Updike, winning first prize. He also wrote a non-fiction work, Science Fiction Bibliography (1975).
