2023 National Book Awards Longlists

Longlists for the National Book Awards (NBA) have been announced. Fiction and Translated Literature categories include titles and authors of genre interest.

The Fiction category includes Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah (Pantheon) and A Council of Dolls by Mona Susan Power (Mariner).

The Translated Literature category includes Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung, translated by Anton Hur (Algonquin), The Devil of the Provinces by Juan Cárdenas, translated by Lizzie Davis (Coffee House). ‎ .

The judges for the Fiction award are Steph Cha, Calvin Crosby, Silas House, Mat Johnson (chair), and Helena María Viramontes. Judges for the Translated Fiction award are Geoffrey Brock, Arthur Malcolm Dixon, Cristina Rodriguez, T. Denean Sharpley-Whiting, and Jeremy Tiang (chair).

Finalists will be announced October 3, 2023, and winners will be announced at the National Book Awards ceremony on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. For more information, including the complete list of finalists, see the National Book Foundation site.
