Can*Con 2022
Can*Con 2022 was held October 14-16 at the Sheraton Hotel in Ottawa, Canada. There were 276 registered memberships; 194 members were in attendance, and 54 attended virtually. Guests of Honour were E.D.E. Bell, Nathan Caro Fréchette, and Suyi Davies Okungbowa, plus virtual guests C.L. Clark and Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki.
In-person programming featured 84 panelists at over 60 sessions, discussing science, writing, literature, and more, such as ‘‘Disease and Medicine: How the Near Future Has Changed’’ and ‘‘The Lure of the New Gothic’’; plus pitch sessions with editors. Online offered 30 items, such as ‘‘Bridging Worlds’’ and ‘‘Getting Into IP Writing.’’ Readings and kaffeklatsches happened via both modalities. Additional options included book launches and a celebration for the 2022 Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame inductees: Julie E. Czerneda, Ed Greenwood, and Hayden Trenholm.
The dealers’ room had just under 20 vendors including Bakka Phoenix, Wolsak and Wynn, Atthis Arts, and Stelliform Press, with goods like books, jewelry, and accessories.
Can*Con 2023 is scheduled for October 13-15, 2023 at the Sheraton in Ottawa, with more details to come.
