PEN Presents Shortlist

The 12-title shortlist for the new PEN Presents award has been announced, including the following authors of genre interest:

  • Sayantan Dasgupta for the translation of Salt Country by Bimalendu Haldar
  • Nandini Krishnan for the translation of I Am Aurangzeb: Conversations with an Emperor by Charu Nivedita

The inaugural award “aims to fund literary translators’ work of creating samples, give publishers better access to titles from underrepresented languages and regions, and help diversify the translated literature landscape.” The 12 shortlisted translators have been awarded grants to create 5,000-word samples. Six samples will be chosen by the PEN Presents Selection Panel and will be announced at the end of October 2022. For more information, and the complete list of nominees, see the PEN Translates website.
