2020 Jim Baen Memorial Award Winner

Locus Magazine, Science Fiction FantasyWinners of the 2020 Jim Baen Memorial Short Story Award have been announced.

  • Grand Prize: “Bagala Devi Objective”, M.T. Reiten
  • First Runner-up: “Spinners”, Kate MacEachern
  • Second Runner-up (tie): “Sample Return”, C. Stuart Hardwick
  • Second Runner-up (tie): “The Caretaker”, Tiffany Smith

Judges for the contest were David Drake and the editors of Baen Books.

The Grand Prize winning story will be featured on the Baen website in June 2020. The author will be given a trophy and paid a professional rate.

Grand Prize, second-, and third-place winners each receive free admission into the 2020 International Space Development Conference and a year’s membership in the National Space Society, as well as an assortment of Baen Books and National Space Society merchandise.

The winners will be honored at the International Space Development Conference, to be held May 28-31, 2020 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Dallas-Frisco Hotel & Convention Center in Dallas TX.
