Oates Wins Jerusalem Prize
Joyce Carol Oates won the $10,000 Jerusalem Prize, awarded by the Jerusalem International Book Forum every two years “to a writer whose work best expresses and promotes the idea of ‘freedom of the individual in society.'” Oates will be recognized at the forum, during the International Writers Festival of Mishkenot Sha’ananim, May 12-16 in Jerusalem. Prior winners include Jorge Luis Borges and Haruki Murakami.
