2018 Andrew Carnegie Medals Longlist
The American Library Association (ALA) has announced the longlist for the 2018 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence for “the best fiction and nonfiction books for adult readers published in the U.S. in the previous year.” Several titles of genre interest appear on the list:
Fiction
- American War, Omar El Akkad (Knopf)
- Future Home of the Living God, Louise Erdrich (HarperCollins)
- White Tears, Hari Kunzru (Knopf)
- The Night Ocean, Paul La Farge (Penguin)
- Augustown, Kei Miller (Pantheon)
- The Golden House, Salman Rushdie (Random House)
- Lincoln in the Bardo, George Saunders (Random House)
- Sing, Unburied, Sing, Jesmyn Ward (Scribner)
Nonfiction
- You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me: A Memoir, Sherman Alexie (Little, Brown)
The shortlists will be announced on October 25, 2017 and the two medal winners will be announced at the Reference and User Services Association’s Book and Media Awards (BMAs) event at American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in Denver CO on February 11, 2017. Each winner will receive $5,000, and two finalists in each category will receive $1,500. For more information, including the entire longlist, see the ALA website.
