Changes at Tor
Leading SF publisher Tor Books has announced significant changes to the publishing team. Longtime executive editor Patrick Nielsen Hayden has been named associate publisher, effective immediately. He will be joined by a new hire, associate publisher Devi Pillai, formerly editorial director at Orbit. Tor publisher Tom Doherty says, “I’ve watched Devi’s work with admiration for a long time now; her qualifications are outstanding, and she’ll be a great addition to our team. As we continue our 35-year commitment to adult SF and fantasy, Devi and Patrick will work alongside each other to oversee our numerous editors who work primarily in these twin genres.” There are plans to add to the ranks of that editorial staff as well.
Doherty has named Linda Quinton as publisher of Forge Books; she was previously associate publisher and vp of marketing for Tor/Forge. A new head of marketing and publicity will be named.
Kathleen Doherty will continue as publisher of Tor Teen and Starscape, and “the company intends to increase the marketing support” provided to her team.
Tom Doherty says, “At a time when so many of our competitors are cutting back, consolidating imprints, and reducing staff, it’s wonderful to know that [Tor parent company] Macmillan enthusiastically supports our plan for growth.”
