J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (US: Scholastic) debuts, predictably, at #1 on several lists. It's #1 at USA Today and San Francisco Chronicle, and #1 on New York Times's children's list -- a list launched 3 years ago to keep the previous Potter book from dominating its hardover fiction list.
In Britain, publisher Bloomsbury has cleverly issued the book in two editions, a regular and an 'adult', so that BookScan dutifully categories each edition appropriately. Thus the regular edition is #1 on the children's list this week, and the 'adult edition' is #1 on the fiction list.
BookSense has not updated this week, still as of Monday evening; and Wall Street Journal's list is out-of-date as posted by CNN.
