An "alternative history" by Newt Gingrich & William R. Forstchen, Gettysburg: A Novel of the Civil War (Thomas Dunne Books) debuts on 2 lists this week. (The Amazon page -- click on the cover image -- has Publishers Weekly and Booklist reviews, plus reader reviews). Gingrich is interviewed in this weekend's New York Times Magazine, though with only indirect reference to this new novel. Publishers Weekly has updated its children's lists for June, this week. Amazon is delinquent for a second week; its rankings haven't changed since two weeks ago. BookSense and Wall Street Journal are updated this week, after misses last week. All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats, and BookScan, which combines hardcovers and paperbacks within lists for fiction, nonfiction, and children's. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.
