Orwell Prize for Political Fiction

The Orwell Foundation is launching a new prize to recognize novels and stories that address social and political themes. The Orwell Prize for Political Fiction is sponsored by A.M. Heath (the agency for George Orwell’s literary estate) and Orwell’s son Richard Blair. The existing Orwell Book Prize for fiction and non-fiction will be renamed the Orwell Prize for Political Writing and will focus exclusively on non-fiction. Each of the two awards will include a £3,000 cash prize, and will be given annually around June 25, Orwell’s birthday. George Orwell (1903-1950) is best known for his works of SF/F political satire, Animal Farm (1945) and 1984 (1949).
