Candlemark & Gleam Sold

Candlemark & Gleam has announced that editor and publisher Athena Andreadis has stepped down and sold the press to Candlemark author Melissa Scott.

Candlemark & Gleam was originally founded by Kate Sullivan in 2010 and was purchased by Andreadis in November 2015. Since its inception, Candlemark has earned a reputation for publishing a wide range of speculative fiction—science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, magical realism, and more—that regardless of subgenre focuses on originality of imagination and quality of craft. The books have a well-earned reputation for nuanced, layered writing, a sense of myth, and stories that linger in the imagination. These qualities earned the press a slew of accolades and stellar reviews far exceeding its size (as one example, 70% of Candlemark books were reviewed in Publishers Weekly, five gaining starred reviews).

Candlemark will continue to focus on science fiction and fantasy “that takes readers to unique and compelling new worlds”. The press expects to publish books by Martha Hood, Jo Graham, and Justin Robinson in 2025. Submissions are planned to open for 2026.
