Clarion West Announces Scholarship for Trans Writers

Clarion West logo, a large purple CThe Clarion West writers’ workshop has announced a new scholarship for “trans, two-spirit, nonbinary, and other gender-expansive authors.” The Sea Star scholarship, funded by an anonymous donor, will cover full annual tuition (currently $3200) for one qualifying student per year. Clarion states:

Trans, two-spirit, nonbinary, and other gender expansive authors who continue to change and inform the landscape of speculative fiction for the better. We know that trans writers are and will continue to be essential in expanding the boundaries of SFFH and are equally essential in inviting new exciting voices into the field.

The Sea Star scholarship is one of Clarion West’s many financial aid programs; the release states that “Approximately 60–90% of our Six-Week Workshop participants receive full and partial-tuition scholarships.” The organization’s complete list of scholarships covers students of many different backgrounds and interests, with awards including the Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship and the George R. R. Martin Worldbuilder Scholarship. Eligibility is based on demonstrated financial need.

Applications for the six-week Summer Workshop for 2025 are open through February 15, 2025.
