Sarah J. Maas had an outstanding February with the House of Flame and Shadow, the latest book in the Crescent City series, achieving a substantial lead over our second-place finisher, Rebecca Yarros’s Fourth Wing. The Tainted Cup (Del Rey), a new fantasy/mystery by Robert Jackson Bennett was our new runner-up. We had 59 nominated titles, up from 52 last month.
In a close contest, Brandon Sanderson disrupted Frank Herbert’s winning streak in the paperback category, taking first place with Mistborn, and relegating Dune to second place. There were no new runners-up. Forty-nine titles were nominated this month, down from last month’s 53 titles.
In an impressive display of dominance, Sarah J. Maas placed eight books on our trade paperback list, with first place going to last month’s winner A Court of Mist and Fury, followed by A Court of Wings and Ruin in second. There were no new runners-up. The trade paperback list had 70 nominated titles, up from last month’s 61.
On the media and gaming-related book list, only three books made our list, as Star Wars: The High Republic: Escape from Valo by Daniel José Older & Alyssa Wong squeaked to a narrow first place victory over Graham McNeill’s Warhammer 40,000: Forges of Mars. There were no new runners-up. We had 19 nominated titles, up from 16 last month
