2023 Prometheus Awards Winners

The Libertarian Futurist Society (LFS) has announced the winner for the Prometheus Award in the Best Novel category, honoring pro-freedom works published in 2022.

  • WINNER: Cloud-Castles, Dave Freer (Magic Isle)
  • Widowland, C.J. Carey (Quercus)
  • Captain Trader Helmsman Spy, Karl. K. Gallagher (Kelt Haven)
  • A Beast Cannot Feign, Dr. Insensitive Jerk (Gordon Hanka) (self-published)
  • Summer’s End, John Van Stry (Baen)

They also announced the winner of the Hall of Fame Award for Best Classic Fiction, “given in recognition of a classic work of science fiction or fantasy with libertarian themes.”

  • WINNER: “Free Men”, Robert Heinlein (The Worlds of Robert A. Heinlein)
  • “Primary Education of the Camiroi”, R.A. Lafferty (Galaxy 12/66)
  • That Hideous Strength, C.S. Lewis (The Bodley Head)
  • Circus World, Barry B. Longyear (Nelson Doubleday)
  • The Truth, Terry Pratchett (Doubleday; Transworld)

The 43nd annual Prometheus Awards will be presented online in mid-August at a time and date to be announced. Winners receive “a gold coin, as a symbol of free trade and free minds, mounted on an engraved plaque.”
