2022 Omega Sci-Fi Awards Open for Submissions
Light Bringer Project and Omega Sci-Fi have opened submissions for this year’s prizes.
The Roswell Award is for short SF stories “that explore and connect themes such as social justice, feminism, identity, inequity, environmental sustainability, ethics, and technology.” The inaugural New Suns Climate Fiction Award is for “original short science fiction that reimagines new ways of living and depicts humanity exploring and overcoming today’s climate and biodiversity crises.” Both are open to writers over 17 years of age living anywhere.
The Tomorrow Prize is for short SF by Los Angeles County high school students, and the special Green Feather Award “highlights an environmentally focused sci-fi story” by a student.
Selected writers will all be invited to attend a culminating event in May 2023, where celebrity guests will perform live readings of stories by the finalists. Winners and placing finalists receive cash awards, and some award winners will receive additional prizes, including publication and access to UCLA Extension Writers’ Program courses.
Submissions for the Roswell and New Suns awards are due December 19, 2022. Tomorrow and Green Feather submissions are due by January 8, 2023. For more information, including submission forms, prizes, and rules, see the Light Bringer Project website.
