Bloomsbury Acquires Head of Zeus
Bloomsbury Publishing in the UK has purchased independent publisher Head of Zeus (HoZ) for £8.5 million (just over $12 million), including payments of pre-existing loans. Head of Zeus publishes genre authors including P.C. Cast, Terry Goodkind, Cixin Liu, Ken Liu, Lavie Tidhar, and many others.
Bloomsbury’s official announcement said, “This acquisition will provide a strong addition to Bloomsbury’s thriving Consumer division and support our long term Consumer growth strategy, with new high quality authors and effective publishing across all formats, including e-book and audio.”
The Head of Zeus statement reads,
At the heart of our deal is the belief that Bloomsbury and Head of Zeus are two complementary businesses that in combination are greater than the sum of their parts. Bloomsbury shares the same literary values that led us to found HoZ nine years ago and we join forces knowing that our deal makes a material difference to both companies and will open the door to future growth and opportunity for all.
Bloomsbury CEO Nigel Newton told The Bookseller that no changes were planned: Head of Zeus chair Anthony Cheetham and CEO Nicolas Cheetham will continue to run the company from their Clerkenwell offices, with Head of Zeus as an independent imprint within the Bloomsbury consumer division.
