2019 Aspen Words Longlist
The 16-title longlist for the second annual Aspen Words Literary Prize has been announced, including titles of genre interest:
- Friday Black, Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah (Mariner)
- Freshwater, Akwaeke Emezi (Grove)
- Severance, Ling Ma (Farrar, Straus, Giroux)
The winner will be announced during a ceremony on April 11, 2019 in New York NY. The $35,000 prize is awarded to “an influential work of fiction focused on vital contemporary issues.” Finalists each receive $1,000. Finalists and winner are chosen by jury which this year consists of Dorothy Allison, Suzanne Bober, Elliot Gerson, Farah Griffin, and Samrat Upadhyay. Aspen Words is a program of the Aspen Institute.
