- “The Dying Time”, Frances Ainslie

The winner is determined by public vote, while finalists were selected by a panel of judges “anonymously ie [sic] without the name of the author being known throughout the process.” The author of the winning story will receive £3,500, second place will receive £1,000, third place will receive £500. This year’s judges were Kit de Waal, Sarah Franklin, Joe Haddow, Adele Parks, and Simon Trewin. Winners will be announced at the Costa Book Awards event on January 30, 2018 in London.
