International Horror Guild Awards

The 2003 International Horror Guild Awards, recognizing outstanding achievements in the field of horror and dark fantasy from the year 2002, were announced May 23, 2003. The Living Legend Award to Charles L. Grant was previously announced in April.

IHG awards are determined by jury. This year's judges are Edward Bryant, Stefan R. Dziemianowicz, Bill Sheehan, and Hank Wagner. The IHG website has background on Charles L. Grant, and a tribute by Edward Bryant.

    PARSEC/Confluence Short Story Contest

    Timons Esaias, coordinator of the 2003 PARSEC/Confluence Short Story Contest, has announced the winners:

    • 1st: "Inter-Species Relations" by R. Lee Smith (Oregon)
    • Tie for 2nd/3rd: "Dad on the Moon" by Rebecca Carmi (Ohio) and "Two for One" by L.K. Farrar (California)
    Judges this year were Charles Oberndorf and Mary Soon Lee. First prize is $200 with publication in the Confluence 2003 Program Book. Second and third prizes are $75, with publication in a future issue of Parsec Magazine.

    This year's theme was "The Alien Wore Fish-Net Stockings". Submissions came from all over the U.S., as well as India, France, Pakistan, Singapore, Canada, Australia and the UK.
