Stephen R. Donaldson's The Runes of the Earth (Putnam) debuts on 2 lists this week, ranking #21 New York Times and #149 at USA Today. Also debuting at NYT are Mercedes Lackey & James Mallory's To Light a Candle (Tor), at #27, and R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms: The Two Swords (Wizards of the Coast), at #19. David Weber's The Shadow of Saganami (Baen) ranks on the US and Canadian Amazon lists this week. Books by Susanna Clarke, Stephen King, and Philip Roth continue to rank on multiple lists each, often in the top 10. All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats, and BookScan, which combines hardcovers and paperbacks within lists for fiction, nonfiction, and children's. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.
