SFFH on General Lists
15 September 2002
Two books debut this week: Iain Banks's nongenre Dead Air (Little, Brown) at #7 on one UK list; and Michael Chabon's big fantasy novel Summerland (Talk/Miramax) at #7 on the San Francisco list — an interesting trick, since the book is not due in stores until September 17.

Columns show ranks on lists from, respectively, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, The Bookseller, Publishers Weekly, BookSense, Amazon.com (fiction lists), and Amazon UK (fiction lists). All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.
Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.
