SFFH on Bestseller Lists
3 April 2000

Margaret Weis's and Tracy Hickman's Dragons of a Fallen Star (Volume 1 of a new DragonLance series) enters two US lists this week.

The Harry Potter books have risen slightly on several lists this week -- the second book is at #1 on the Wall Street Journal list -- perhaps due to publicity about Steven Spielberg declining, and Chris Columbus signing, to direct the first Harry Potter movie.

Stephen King's The Green Mile is back on a couple paperback lists, perhaps due to Oscar publicity (even though it didn't win anything). And Crichton's Timeline is back on the San Francisco Chronicle list after 8 weeks off. (The SFC nonfiction list, which has more science-oriented titles than any other list, has The Tipping Point at #1 this week; Dava Sobel's Galileo's Daughter at #5, and Matt Ridley's Genome at #7.)

The table compiles SFFH books placing 15th or higher on general bestseller lists (30th or higher on the combined USA Today list). The current rank of each book and the change since last week are shown, where:
   = same as last week
   + or - with number: difference since last week
   + back on list
   ++ new on list
   x no longer on list (number of x's: weeks off list)
   () below cut-off but noted anyway

Columns show ranks on lists from, respectively, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, London Times, Publishers Weekly, Amazon.com (fiction lists), and BookSense. All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Some books are on separate children's lists (ch), trade paperback lists (tpb), or mass market paperback lists (mm), as indicated.
