Several genre books debut on general bestseller lists this week, most prominently Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's Dune: House Harkonnen (Bantam Spectra), which appears on five lists, as high as #8. Also debuting this week, after a one week gap from dropping off pre-publication lists: Laurell K. Hamilton's A Kiss of Shadows (Ballantine), Philip Pullman's The Amber Spyglass (Knopf), Stephen King's nonfiction On Writing (Scribner), and James Luceno's paperback Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Agents of Chaos I: Hero's Trial (Del Rey). PW has updated its children's lists for October. A couple associational books (not in the table below) are selling well: Margaret Atwood's The Blind Assassin, and a short novel by Mark Salzman, Lying Awake (Knopf), about a nun whose visions might be medically cured (see New SFFH Books in October for more). Salzman debuted last week on the LAT list and is up to #1 this week; it's also in the top 10 at Amazon and SFC.
