LA wins Worldcon 2006

Los Angeles won its bid to host the 2006 World Science Fiction Convention, in a vote concluded at this year's convention, Torcon 3, in Toronto. It beat competitor Kansas City by 74 votes.

The convention, to be called L.A.con IV, will be held August 23-27, 2006, at the Anaheim Convention Center, across the street from Disneyland, and site of the 1996 Worldcon. Guests of Honor will be author Connie Willis, artist James Gurney, fan Howard DeVore, and special guest Frankie Thomas, the original star of Tom Corbett, Space Cadet.

In related news, Seattle won its bid to host the 2005 NASFiC (North American Science Fiction Convention), a convention held in years when the Worldcon is hosted outside the US. (The 2005 Worldcon will be in Glasgow.) Seattle defeated Charlotte, NC, by just 6 votes. Guests include Fred Saberhagen, Liz Danforth, Toni Weisskopf, and Kevin Standlee. Its website is http://www.seattle2005.org/index.shtml.

The 2004 Worldcon, Noreascon Four, will be held in Boston, September 2-6. The convention in 2005, Interaction, will be held in Glasgow, August 4-8.
