All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

Two paperback debuts this week. The second Dean Koontz's Frankenstein novel, subtitled City of Night and co-written with Ed Gorman (and published by Bantam), debuts on 3 print lists, as high as #1 on Publishers Weekly's mass market paperback list. A new Star Wars novel by Troy Denning, The Joiner King (Del Rey), debuts on the same 3 print lists, as high as #11 on the PW mass market list. This page, compiled belatedly on August 16, does not include rankings from Amazon and Dymocks online lists.
