New Spring: The Novel blasted the competition in the hardcover category, while Ring of Fire had no close competition in second place. New runner-up: The Knight by Gene Wolfe (Tor). We had 54 nominees, down from 69 last month.

Thief of Lives led the paperback category by a solid margin, with Crossroads of Twilight making a strong showing as well. New runner-up: S.D. Tower's The Assassins of Tamurin (Eos). Nominees: 83, up from 74.

The Silmarillion swapped places with fellow Tolkien title The Lord of the Rings, leading trade paperbacks by a narrow margin. New runner-up: The Charmed Sphere by Catherine Asaro (Luna). Nominees: 46, one more than last month.

Star Wars: Tatooine Ghost returned to take first place by a slim margin in the media-related category. Nominees: 28, down from 30. Halo: First Strike held on to the top spot in gaming-related titles by a solid margin. Nominees: 21, down from 17.
