Dune: The Machine Crusade had no close competition on the hardcover list. New runner-up: David Drake's Goddess of the Ice Realm (Tor). We had 64 nominees, down from 69 last month.
Dune: The Butlerian Jihad trounced the competition in the paperback category, with well over twice as many votes as the next title. New runner-up: Death Masks by Jim Butcher (Roc). Nominees: 85, down from 92.
Carlucci edged out The Hobbit by a single vote in the trade paperback category. New runner-up: A Place So Foreign and Eight More by Cory Doctorow (Four Walls Eight Windows). Nominees: 60, the same as last month.
Star Trek: The Lost Era: 2311: Serpents Among the Ruins easily won first place, with more than twice as many votes as the next book. Nominees: 27, up from 22.
Forgotten Realms: The Thousand Orcs once again dominated gaming-related titles. Nominees: 20, down from 25.
