SFFH on General Lists

Two new movie tie-in books appear on lists this week: Brian Sibley's The Lord of the Rings: The Making of the Movie Trilogy and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Photo Guide edited by David Brawn (both Houghton Mifflin); Sibley's book ranks on Amazon's fiction lists in both hardcover and paperback. Nielsen BookScan may not have been down the past few days, just very busy. The edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets ranking #2 on its paperback list is a 'Celebratory Edition'; the regular edition ranks #19. All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats, and BookScan, which combines hardcovers and paperbacks within lists for fiction, nonfiction, and children's. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.
