All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

Christopher Paolini's YA fantasy Eldest (Knopf), sequel to bestselling Eragon, arrives in stores today and ranks #1 today on Amazon's US list, bumping Harry Potter, and a bit lower at #3 on the UK and Canadian Amazon lists.

Debuting this week is Harry Turtledove's Setting Accounts: Drive to the East (Del Rey) on both New York Times and Publishers Weekly's fiction hardcover lists.

A couple more forthcoming titles join Robert Jordan's Knife of Dreams on Amazon lists with advance sales: Terry Brooks' High Druid of Shannara: Straken (Del Rey in the US, Simon and Schuster in the UK), and David Gemmell's Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow (Bantam UK).
