All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

The next Terry Pratchett Discworld novel, Thud! (Doubleday UK), debuts on Amazon UK's list today with advance sales; the book isn't due until October. Also debuting this week: the UK edition of Garth Nix's The Keys to the Kingdom, Book 3: Drowned Wednesday, just out in paperback from Collins in the UK. The paperback of Dean Koontz' The Taking is still ranked high on several lists, as are editions of Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. J.K. Rowling's forthcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ranks #1 this week on all three Amazon lists.
