For hardcovers, Mercedes Lackey leapt to #1 (as well as doing well on the paperback list). C.J. Cherryh also made a strong showing. New runner-up: Prospero's Children by Jan Siegel (Del Rey). We had 83 nominees to last month's 85.
In paperbacks, Larry Niven and Anne McCaffrey weren't far apart as #1 and #2. New runner-up: The Shadow of Ararat by Thomas Harlan (Tor). Nominees:113, up from 98.
Not surprisingly, Stephenson's Cryptonomicon dominated the trade paperbacks, with more than twice the votes of the next book. There was no new runner-up. We had 62 nominees, to 65 last month.
For media, the latest Star Wars book did very well, but the new Babylon 5 was not far behind. There was no new runner-up. Nominees: 32, down from 34.
In gaming-related, ‘‘Battletech’’ had two titles; again few titles had significant sales, so only four made the cut. Nominees: 34, to last month's 23.
